Have you considered building your first home or upgrading to a new bigger home?  Take it from someone that has taken that plunge and hired a builder to build my first home: Do not be talked into getting a home built solely on dollar value.  There is so much to know in getting a home built and this is why you are going to hire a builder to get the job done right the first time.  If this is a home that you want to build for short term or long term family living, you need to be aware of hiring a builder who will cut corners to put more money in their pocket vs. hiring a builder who will build your home with quality components.  Communication with your builder is so important, as is the quality of the builder and their trades.  These two things alone if left to crumble will cause you huge amounts of stress, disappointment and future problems.  I cannot stress this enough that you need to see the work of the builder, have them explain common pitfalls, explanations of where the builders exceed expectations.  Does the builders style of finishing match your tastes?  Do all the trades people clean up after themselves?  When you pull up to the home being built, is there a mess out front?  How many homes does the builder build in a year?  Does the builder have another career in a different field? 
It pays to have knowledge and experience on your side for one of your biggest investments.  Who would you hire... someone who gives you the cheapest building price or someone who can prove quality, experience and knowledge?  Go to my Resources page to find contractors and other people who I can confidently recommend.
